Now we`d like to present the bounce bottom play for June 29th:
Anthera Pharmaceuticals – (ANTH).
On June 27th, after market hours, Anthera Pharmaceuticals reported – the mixed results for its Phase 2b PEARL-SC clinical study in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Market clearly overreacted on this report and as a result – ANTH shares plunged for over 70%.
Surprise… The data was not really bad. Efficacy of the blisibimod (ANTH`s lupus drug candidate) in the highest dose is over 40%, value of the low dose is not significant but the Phase 2 study is set to define which dose(s) are the best for the Phase 3. Keep in mind that Anthera already has the MMA (marketing authorization application) from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the acceptability of the Anthera`s proposed Phase 3 design for the treatment of severe systemic lupus erythematosus patients.
Just to summarize: Phase 3 is coming; Anthera is looking for the potential partnership from a “big pharma” (listen to the company`s conference call at this link – ) A few more words for your thoughts: Human Genome Sciences (HGSI) with its BENLYSTA (belimumab, lupus drug) has market cap of $2.6B.
Anthera`s market capitalization is only about $33M. Anthera`s blisibimod offers longer durable effects and less side effects than Human Genome Sciences`s belimumab. Do you thinking what we are thinking ANTH stock is set for the bounce. Period.
